Build-a-Puppet Afternoon in Astoria
- 2 hours
- Up to 10 across families
- English and Greek
Learn
Hosted by Theo Marangos
Every puppet starts as a pile of offcuts that a costume shop down the street would have thrown away. Kids pick their materials, sketch a character, and learn a few simple stitches and gluing tricks that actually hold. By the end each family has a puppet and a short scene to perform on our cardboard stage.
We build from donated fabric remnants, and leftover materials go back to a local school's art room each month. What's included
- All rescued fabric, felt, and trims
- Aprons and shared tools
- A take-home puppet per child
- A short puppet show at the end
Plan
Just yourselves. Wear something that can take a little glue. We have aprons for the messier builders.
Grownups stay and build alongside their kids, this is not a drop-off. We keep glue guns at the adult end of the table.
Fabric is rescued from a neighborhood costume shop, and clean leftovers are donated to PS 17's art program.

Theo is patient and funny, and my kids were proud of what they made. Worth the afternoon.

Fun and well run. It got a bit crowded at the glue station when all the kids needed it at once.
