We walk the forested stretch of the Bronx River greenway and look at what actually grows here, from mugwort and garlic mustard to wild greens you can eat. I focus on safe, common plants and the rule of never eating what you can't name with certainty. We forage lightly and only where it's allowed.
Your fee helps pay for community days pulling invasive plants along the Bronx River banks. What's included
- A field guide to a dozen common local plants
- Tastes of a few safe edible greens
- Notes on what to never pick
- A short recipe card to take home
Plan
Closed shoes, water, and a small bag if you want to take a few clippings. Skip this one if you have severe plant allergies.
We harvest sparingly and leave roots in the ground. Stay on the trail and don't eat anything until I've confirmed it.
A portion of each booking funds the invasive-removal days that cleared two riverbank sites last year.

Marcus is careful and honest about what's safe. I'll never look at a weedy lot the same way.

Really informative. Small group meant everyone got to ask questions.

Loved learning the plants right by the river. Felt grounded and specific, not gimmicky.
