- 1.5 hours
- Up to 12, kids and grownups
- English and some Spanish
Learn
Hosted by Renata Cruz
Inwood Hill Park holds the only old-growth forest left in Manhattan, and the trees here predate the city grid. We walk slowly and stop often, reading short stories that tie each grove to the Lenape who lived along this shoreline. Kids learn to spot a tulip tree and listen for woodpeckers instead of looking at a screen.
A share of every booking goes to the volunteer crew that clears invasive vines from Inwood's last natural forest. What's included
- A printed story map kids can keep
- A guide who grew up in the neighborhood
- Loaner magnifying glasses for close looking
- A short snack break by the marsh

My six-year-old still talks about the woodpecker we heard. Renata kept the pace right for little legs.

Lovely walk and good stories. The upper steps were a lot for our toddler, so we hung back on the lower loop.

Calm and unhurried. It felt like a real piece of old New York hiding in plain sight.
