Hosted by Gloria Espinosa
Spend an afternoon working alongside the people who've kept this Lower East Side garden alive since the 1980s. You'll weed, plant, and harvest depending on the season. Gloria will walk you through how the garden feeds local families and how the land trust protects it.
Your afternoon's work helps a volunteer-run garden hold its plot against development pressure and keep growing free produce for the block. What's included
- Gloves and all garden tools
- Guidance from the lead gardeners
- A share of the day's harvest
Plan
Closed-toe shoes, clothes you can get dirty, and a water bottle. Gloves are provided.
Show up ready to work. There's no minimum skill level, just a willingness to follow the lead gardeners.
There's no fee. The garden runs on volunteer hours and small grants. A share of any produce you harvest goes to the garden's free farm stand.
