Hosted by Diane Okafor

You'll sail a restored gaff-rigged schooner out past the Brooklyn Bridge while the crew explains how the working port shaped the city. There's room to help haul a line if you want, or just sit back and watch the skyline turn. The captain points out the old fish-market piers and the reefs being rebuilt below the surface.

A share of every ticket goes to the Billion Oyster Project, which rebuilds the reefs that filter New York Harbor.

What's included

  • A licensed captain and two crew
  • Light snacks and water
  • A second layer if you forget yours
  • Hands-on sailing if you'd like to try

Diane's crew let my kid steer for a bit. The harbor looks completely different from the water.

Lovely sail, though it was colder than I expected. Bring the jacket they tell you to bring.

Quiet, no engine noise once the sails were up. The oyster reef talk stuck with me.
